Safari Overview
The Full Northern Circuit in Seven Days
The 7-day Serengeti Migration Safari covers Tanzania's complete northern wildlife circuit in the most efficient format possible — without cutting anything that matters. The route visits four of Tanzania's finest national parks in a logical sequence, spending the right amount of time in each to experience its defining character before moving on. The result is a safari that feels complete, not compressed.
The circuit begins in Tarangire National Park — one day among the enormous baobabs and elephant herds that make this one of Tanzania's most distinctive landscapes. Lake Manyara follows on the morning of Day 3, its soda lake shimmering pink with flamingos before the road climbs to the Ngorongoro Crater rim for an overnight with the panoramic caldera stretched below. Day 4 is given entirely to the crater. Day 5 onwards is the Serengeti.
Three Serengeti days is a meaningful window. Expert guides with real-time migration intelligence position each day's game drive in the most active zone available — whether that is the Mara River crossing points, the calving concentration near Ndutu, or the vast migration columns of the western corridor. Every available hour is maximised. There are no wasted drives. This is the migration, focused and delivered with precision.
On a 7-day safari, every Serengeti day is a full game-drive day from before dawn until after dusk. No morning check-ins, no afternoon transfers, no wasted time. Your guide uses the full 12-hour window each day — pre-dawn positioning at crossing points during July–October, early light drives in the calving zone in January–February, and relentless predator tracking throughout. Three focused days with the right guide delivers more than five unfocused days with the wrong one.
Lion and buffalo are virtually guaranteed across the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Elephant is guaranteed in Tarangire. Leopard is frequently encountered in Seronera. Black rhino — the most elusive of the five — is most reliably seen in the Ngorongoro Crater, where we spend a full day at dawn. Cheetah is a Serengeti specialist; the Seronera corridor is the best cheetah habitat in Africa. On a 7-day safari with an expert guide, all five are realistically achievable.
The 7-day safari is our most affordable migration itinerary — priced from $2,350 per person for the shared vehicle package. Despite the lower price, nothing essential is sacrificed: all park fees are included, accommodation uses the same quality lodge and tented camp partners as our longer itineraries, and every safari is led by the same professional naturalist guides who guide our 10-day guests. The difference is time, not quality.
Day-by-Day Programme
7-Day Serengeti Migration Safari Itinerary
-
Your safari begins with a 2.5-hour drive southwest from Arusha or Moshi through the East African Rift Valley to Tarangire National Park — one of Tanzania's most underrated wildlife destinations. The Tarangire River is one of the few permanent water sources in the region during the dry season, drawing wildlife from vast distances and creating wildlife concentrations that rival any park in East Africa.

Meet your expert naturalist guide. Vehicle and equipment check. Drive southwest toward Tarangire via the Rift Valley escarpment.
-
11:00Enter Tarangire National Park
Begin the first game drive along the Tarangire River. Elephant herds of 300+ commonly seen in the riverbed. Watch for lion, leopard, cheetah, and the famous ground hornbills.

The Serengeti National Park begins. The name means "endless plains" in the Maasai language — and the first view of the Serengeti's vast, unbroken grassland horizon is the most iconic savanna landscape on Earth. The central Seronera Valley is the year-round wildlife heartland of the park — home to the most reliable lion, leopard, and cheetah sightings in Tanzania, plus permanent herds of resident wildlife that do not follow the migration.
-
06:00Dawn drive — enter the Serengeti
Dawn light on the open plains. The first sight of the Serengeti horizon. Resident cheetah mothers with cubs frequently encountered in the Seronera corridor at first light.

The day the safari is designed around. Positioned in the active migration zone based on current herd intelligence, today is a full-day immersion in the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth. Whether at the Mara River for crossing drama, in Ndutu for calving season, or along the migration corridor for the great columns of wildebeest and zebra stretching to the horizon — today is why people fly across the world to the Serengeti.
Mara River Crossings (July–October)Your guide positions the vehicle at the Mara River before dawn and waits. When the lead wildebeest reach the crossing point, thousands follow in a mass stampede — plunging into crocodile-filled water in a scene of primal chaos, courage, and tragedy. Nothing in nature compares to this. The full day at crossing points maximises the probability of witnessing the event on a 7-day itinerary.
Calving Season — Ndutu (January–February)Approximately 500,000 wildebeest calves born in a three-week period — the highest concentration of predator activity of any time of year. The density of cheetah, lion, wild dog, and hyena around the newborn herds in the Ndutu area is extraordinary and well within range for a three-day Serengeti positioning.
-
05:30Pre-dawn departure — migration zone positioning
Early start to reach the migration zone before sunrise. Guide communicates with scout network for real-time herd positions.
-
All dayFull-day migration immersion — no time limits
No schedule constraints. Your vehicle stays with the migration activity for as long as it continues. Bush lunch served in the field. Sundown at the migration site.

The final morning in the Serengeti — a dawn game drive before the long drive back through the Ngorongoro highlands to Arusha and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport. The departure day does not waste the morning: the game drive begins at first light and continues until the road departure window. Every hour in the Serengeti is used. The drive back crosses dramatic crater highland landscapes and passes Maasai villages — there is wildlife to see even on a transfer day.
-
06:00Final dawn game drive — Serengeti farewell
One last sunrise on the plains. Drive with no particular agenda — let the Serengeti show whatever it chooses. Return to camp for breakfast and packing by 09:00.
-
09:30Depart Serengeti — drive to Arusha
5–6 hour drive via the Ngorongoro crater highlands. Traditional Maasai bomas, highland forest, and Rift Valley views. Lunch stop en route. Arrive Arusha in the afternoon.

What our 7-day safari guests say

"We only had a week. The guide made every hour count — pre-dawn starts, no wasted drives, and on day six we watched a full Mara River crossing from start to finish. I was worried seven days wasn't enough. It was more than enough. It was everything."

"First safari ever. The 7-day itinerary was perfect — four parks felt like a complete education in East African wildlife, not a tour. The Ngorongoro Crater was unlike anything I've seen in a nature documentary. We found the black rhino within twenty minutes of entering the crater."

"I had done longer safaris in southern Africa and expected to feel rushed on a 7-day. I was wrong. The quality of guiding compressed everything beautifully — three Serengeti days with a great guide is worth five days with a mediocre one. The migration was as advertised. Extraordinary."

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes — seven days is a meaningful and complete safari experience. Three Serengeti days, managed well, is enough to experience the migration at full scale: the vast columns of wildebeest stretching to the horizon, the predator concentrations, and during crossing season, a real opportunity to witness a Mara River crossing event. What 7 days cannot guarantee is multiple crossing attempts if the herd is hesitant — for that, 8 or 9 days is more appropriate. But for first-time safari visitors and those with limited leave, the 7-day itinerary delivers everything essential about the Serengeti migration experience.
-
The 7-day safari delivers different but equally compelling migration experiences in every season. July–October offers Mara River crossing season — three days at crossing points gives a meaningful crossing probability, particularly if the herd is already at the river when you arrive. January–February offers the calving season near Ndutu — three concentrated days in the calving zone delivers extraordinary predator activity that is well within reach. April–May and November–December offer the lowest visitor numbers, lowest prices, and still excellent resident wildlife. Our guides position your three Serengeti days in the most active zone for your dates.
-
The 7-day Serengeti Migration Safari costs from $2,350 per person (shared vehicle, comfortable lodges) to $6,200 per person (luxury flying safari with charter flights, exclusive conservancy camps, and hot air balloon included). The mid-range private vehicle package at $3,600 per person is the most popular option — offering a private vehicle, premium tented camps with en-suite facilities, and a private naturalist guide. All packages include all park fees, 6 nights accommodation, all meals, expert guiding, and airport transfers. International flights and visa are not included. Prices are 10–15% higher during peak season (July–October).
-
Yes — the 7-day Serengeti Migration Safari is one of our most popular choices for first-time safari visitors. The four-park route provides a comprehensive introduction to Tanzania's wildlife ecosystem, covering different landscapes and species at each stop. Expert naturalist guides explain wildlife behaviour, ecology, and conservation throughout. The migration safari gives first-timers the most dramatic possible introduction to African wildlife. No physical fitness is required — all activity takes place from the safari vehicle. We also recommend the 7-day for those who want to combine a safari with a Kilimanjaro climb in a two-week trip.
-
The 7-day safari covers Tanzania's most diverse wildlife habitats. In the Serengeti: 1.5 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebra, 3,000+ lions, 1,000+ leopard, 1,000+ cheetah, and 9,000+ hyena. The Ngorongoro Crater adds black rhino (~30 individuals), enormous buffalo herds of 5,000+, and an extraordinary flamingo population. Tarangire adds elephant herds of 300+ individuals, giraffe, eland, and the highest density of breeding raptors in East Africa. Lake Manyara adds tree-climbing lions, hippo pods, and the famous flamingo-pink soda lake. Tanzania has over 1,000 bird species — birders will find every game drive adds 40–80 species to their list.
-
Yes — the Kilimanjaro plus 7-day Migration Safari combination is the most popular two-week Tanzania adventure we offer. The combination fits comfortably within two weeks of leave: a 7-day Kilimanjaro climb (Machame route) followed by the 7-day safari runs 14 days total. Both depart from Moshi, share the same starting point and guide infrastructure, and we manage all logistics between mountain and bush. We offer combined package pricing that reduces the total cost compared to booking separately. This two-week combination delivers Africa's greatest mountain and its greatest wildlife spectacle within a single trip.
